Why Travel Further for a Short Ski Break?

Undiscovered by many of us, the Austrian Salzburger Sportwelt.

When the name of the game is to get swiftly from your door to the piste we naturally aim for the nearest major Alpine airport and then make our
way to the nearest resorts by transfer. A logical approach that means we take most of short breaks in the resorts surround Geneva. Most popular with Brits are the Portes du Soleil, Chamonix & The Three Valleys. The trade is roaring, as we get increasingly busy & try to make every second count more of us are looking for a quick trip that fits in with our schedule.

This presents challenges to acccommodatoin providers who are working to offer excellent value in a market that has been slowly shrinking and with the week by week model being eroded. As a result some short breaks can end up offering less value for money & particularly where the demand is highest. Many providers of short breaks are becoming more specilised and are find ways to manage their accommodation to offer the best value for the maximum flexability. You can find out more about these changes in the related stories link at the bottom.

Our business in this article is with an interesting alternative to the Geneva based short break.

Flachau & Flachauwinkl are resorts in the Salzburger Sportwelt and are part of the Ski Amade ski Alliance. They're well-known for excellently maintained pistes, top notch lifts and massive snow making capacity should the weather prove difficult. A friendly professional local tourism industry makes the apres ski experience very pleasant with something for everyone and very family friendly.

Much more can be said about the accommodation & services on offer, you can find out more in the related articles.

Where this gets really exciting for me is the journey from the UK. When flying to Geneva, you'll spend most of your at the airport with the actual
flying taking less time than the parking, checking in etc. To fly a little further to Salzburg adds little to the journey from your front door to the transfer taxi.

You can arrive in Flachauwinkl in 50 minutes from Salzburg, a single motorway and a few turns off the slip road and you're there.

There is a wide range of accommodation available & value for money is found at every level.

Alpin Chalet is a favourite with flexible options on catering & a community of high quality chalets.

So the path of least resistance to short break heaven can include going further and yet save time & money.
