High-Altitude Tropical Water Park in Avoriaz
Of course, those in the know will be familiar with Avoriaz as popular family destination with great skiing and good snow. You might also know that it's a traffic-free resort, so you can enjoy sleigh rides and ski in, ski out accommodation amid the timber holiday residences. However, you might not know the suprises that the well-known alpine resort has in store this year.
For starters, Aquariaz, the first tropical water-park at high altitude of its kind in Europe is in its first full season since its official opening last summer.
It was designed by Center Parcs to be an aquatic paradise in the mountains and with its lush vegetation of tropical plants and trees, it makes the perfect alternative to a hard day on the slopes.
It’s got something for everyone too: large swimming pools, flowing rivers, hot tubs, water slides, a wading pool, massage benches and a climbing wall - not to mention, its floor to ceiling windows and open-air spa that offer panoramic views of the valley.
Less dazzling but important for serious skiiers, a new super tech 3S cable car will open this March. This will replace the 50 year old cable car between Morzine and Avoriaz and will be able to transport up to 2,400 passengers per hour. The journey is expected to take only four minutes and will be another huge asset to the resort - freeing up valuable holiday time.
Plus, here's a run down of some key dates in Avoiraz this season:
9th - 10th Feburary - World Rookie Tour - Snowboarding competition
9th February - 16th March - Snow Carnival - Five weeks of street bands and celebrations!
20th - 24th March - Rock the Pistes
6th - 12th April - Avoriaz Jazz Up - One of France's best festivals
For those visiting Avoriaz in 2013 – it seems your luck’s in.
