Saas-Fee voted 'Best Swiss Ski-Resort'
Saas-Fee was named the best ski resort in Switzerland and came second internationally, out of a selection of 55 top ski resorts in Austria, Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland. Over 40 000 guests were asked to rank ski resorts in 2012, in a questionnaire which considered their snow reliability, slope preperation, atmosphere, accommodation, exclusivity and ski schools.
The questionnaire was designed by an independent guest satisfaction body and is known as one of the biggest and most significant studies in the alpine area. Saas Fee, scoring the highest for snow reliability, slope preperation and cosiness, won gold.
“About 70% of all ski slopes in Saas-Fee are guaranteed for snow”, says Rainer Flaig, CEO of the Saas-Fee cableways. Saas-Fee owes its snow-sure slopes due to a unique glacial area, its unmatched altitude 3’600 meters and its heavy investment in artificial snow production.
Even in the summer, the slopes in Saas-Fee exceed expectations, so much so that national and youth teams head there to train. Highly qualified and experienced teams, plus generous investment, keep the slopes in perfect condition.
Saas-Fee is car free, so charming that it rhymes. Pascal Schaer, Director Tourism, lovingly describes “the historic and landmarked `Stadel’ made out of sun blackened larch wood, the narrow alleys and stone covered roofs' which put Saas-Fee a cut above the rest.
And people are learning...
Saas-Fee suffered from slight decline, with less people staying overnight, which thankfully ended last year. Saas-Fee became the largest all-inclusive destination in Switzerland last winter, with a guest growth of over 30%. Though much of Europe is yet to catch on, there has been a 78% increase of Japanese visitors and 22% increase of Russians.
