America... The Land of the Free

Well it’s not quite free, but there are some great offers this season so we thought we’d take a quick look at what’s out there.

American ski resorts might not exactly top the charts for most British tourists, but what they have is a superb selection to choose from. So whether you’re looking for a ski village with charm or a large resort to party in, this could be the place for you this season.

The resorts generally follow the example set by other attractions in the US as being larger than life, with some resorts covering over 1000 hectares of skiing terrain. Not to mention the fact that unlike Europe, every resort has a marked ski boundary and everywhere within is avalanche controlled and patrolled. Meaning you can hunt that fresh powder without having to pay for a guide! It also enjoys some of the best snowfall in the world with a number of resorts amongst the top 20 in the world, for example Aleyska sees an average snowfall of 18 metres per year! That’s not all, the US also boasts outstanding lift systems like the negligible lift lines, fantastic facilities, high tree lines and the classic high standards of US hospitality.

Check out this review from Sam who went with a group of 8 adults:

“ We tried a Colorado tour put together by US Skitours which entailed staying 3 nights in Aspen, Steamboat, Vail, Breckenridge and Copper Mountain. And yes it was awesome; helped by guides that were supplied which ensured we got the best out of each area, often not even needing the piste map as we were in the “Back Country”! If you are a good skier this should be sampled whenever possible as you should find your perfect ski area with no one else there! “

And another from a family trip to Aspen:

“ Great powder, few people on the slopes and just fantastic off piste, though the wife stayed on the well groomed runs! “

Skiing in America looks like it can put the smile back on your face whilst managing to improve your technique and certainly looks worth the extra travel time & costs. Aspen is just one of many world class resorts for you to choose from with Jackson, Breckenridge, Keystone, Killington, Steamboat, Stowe, Heavenly, Park City & Winter Park to name a few.
